Could you have prediabetes?
According to the CDC, Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. Approximately 84 million American adults—more than 1 out of 3—have prediabetes. Of those with prediabetes, 90% don’t know they have it. Prediabetes puts you at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
According to medical journals like U.S. Pharmacist, and the Center For Disease Control (CDC), Johnson & Johnson and The National Center for Biotechnology, Diabesity (diabetes + obesity) is now a global pandemic. The CDC predicts that, by 2050, 1 in 3 US adults will contract this disease!
According to the most recent Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, adult obesity rates now exceed 35% in seven states, 30% in 29 states and 25% in 48 states in America.
The Center For Disease Control states that there are more obese US adults than those who are just overweight. According to a study in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), in 2008, the obesity rate among adult Americans was estimated at 32.2% for men and 35.5% for women. These rates were confirmed by the CDC again for 2009–2012.
The State of Obesity in America website projects as many as 7.9 million new cases of diabetes a year, compared with 1.9 million new cases in recent years. They also project, based on current trends, that there may be 6.8 million new cases of chronic heart disease and stroke every year, compared with 1.3 million new cases a year now. This same organization states that the national childhood obesity rate is 18.5% in America, for ages 2- to 19-year-olds.
